Welcome! We're so glad you're here.

Stories weave a fabric from the threads of our collective experiences. They make visible our triumphs, struggles, and aspirations. We can’t help but see beyond our own experiences when we hear another’s voice. During times of turmoil, stories hold the power to connect, inspire, and comfort us. The Living Archives Project recognizes the significance of capturing and preserving these stories as a vital part of our community’s history. Every story is valuable. Our focus on equity in archives means recognizing and changing the historical pattern that devalues and silences some voices. It means actively seeking out and preserving the stories of individuals and communities whose narratives have been historically overlooked or erased. Equity requires a commitment to inclusivity, representation, and accessibility, empowering everyone to contribute their stories to the tapestry of history to ensure that our archive reflects the complexity and richness found in Mecklenburg County.

Project Overview

As we listened to neighbors, we heard people struggle with common questions and settle on diverse answers.

How did the pandemic affect your work?

How did you support community?

Were there positive things that emerged from your pandemic experience?

How did COVID affect schools?

How did tension around race affect your experience?

How did the pandemic increase isolation?

How did the pandemic affect families with children?

What did we know and not know?

How did you balance fear and safety?

How did virtual life help during the pandemic?
