Jamil Dyair Steele is a visual artist native from Charlotte and a proud West Charlotte Senior High School alum. He draws inspiration from his roots and formal art education at UNC Charlotte and Winthrop University.
Also known as Mr. Steele, a National Board-Certified teacher, he brings the same passion from his art career into his teaching, leaving a lasting impact on his students. Influenced by his father, Ernie Barnes, and artists Norman Rockwell and Kehinde Wiley, Dyair’s works have been showcased at venues like the Mint Museum, the McColl Center, and UNCC’s Projective Eye Gallery, epitomizing his dedication to both art and education.
Dyair specializes in painting and creates unique portraiture, murals, and illustrations that weave narratives of minorities and marginalized communities all throughout Charlotte.
