Hau was born in Vietnam and experienced a difficult early childhood. After the Vietnam war, at the age of 2, he and his family embarked on a risky journey, leaving Vietnam as refugees on a boat with only the clothes on their backs. After spending two years on a refugee island, his family obtained visas to the United States.
Hau obtained a finance degree from Virginia Tech and spent over 19 years in the banking sector. However, a deep-seated passion for cooking, inherited from his mother, was discovered during his college years. Despite his parents’ objections, Hau utilized his 401k to co-found Banh Mi Brothers with his brother Luan Doan.
Opening his small business proved to be transformative, especially navigating the challenges brought by COVID. Six years later, Hau confidently states that opening Banh Mi Brothers was the best decision he ever made.
“We made it through so very fortunate to have very loyal customers that were through it during COVID.”
