Cristina Castillo

Cristina Castillo Artuch, originally from Zaragoza, Spain, migrated to the US in 2011 as a Spanish teacher. She remains a passionate educator and researcher with a focus on psycholinguistics, bilingualism, and Intercultural communication. She collaborates with many organizations to foster diverse and plurilingual societies and coaches families raising bilingual children. In her free time, she contributes her skills as an interpreter in the education and medical fields for those who need it most.

In 2013 she moved to Charlotte where, in 2016, she met her husband, Jake. Together they navigated the Delta variant while Cristina was pregnant with their daughter, Emma, prioritizing safety and missing holidays and time with friends and family in Spain and New York.

When their second daughter was born in August 2023, Cristina reflected on the differences between the pregnancies and felt grateful that the family successfully navigated the pandemic. She is thankful for a peaceful second pregnancy, a maskless birth experience, the renewed ability to hug family and friends and the freedom to work from home.

“I entered the country 3 hours before the borders were closed.”
